✦Set in 1991, this arcade romance begins when gifted classmate Akira defeats self-proclaimed gaming expert Haruo thirty times at Street Fighter II.
Synopsis
In 1991, sixth grader Haruo has little social success and considerable confidence in his gaming ability. At the local arcade, popular classmate Akira defeats him thirty times at Street Fighter II. She continues appearing at the arcades he visits. Haruo's one dependable source of pride has therefore acquired an exceptionally persistent rival.
Haruo lives for video games and considers the arcade the one place where he excels. Akira is wealthy, popular, and much better at Street Fighter II. She beats him thirty times, then keeps meeting him at other arcades. Repeated competition creates a strange friendship between two classmates with little else in common.
Haruo believes video games are the one thing nobody can take from him. Then Akira walks into his local arcade and beats him thirty times at Street Fighter II. She keeps appearing wherever he plays, turning every cabinet into another challenge. Their ridiculous rivalry becomes a perfect language for two completely mismatched classmates!
Haruo's pride is abrasive from the first loss, and the full CGI presentation may require patience. The arcade premise earns attention through specificity. Street Fighter II is not background decoration. It is the exact place where Akira overturns his confidence and where their unlikely friendship begins taking shape.
