Endou is a talented goalkeeper at a school whose soccer club barely functions. Six other members show little interest in training, leaving enthusiasm concentrated in one position. When forward Gouenji comes to town, Endou begins recruiting players in earnest. Before facing any grand opponent, he must first establish that a team exists.

Gouenji's arrival offers possibility, not an instant solution, and Endou still has to persuade a team into existence.
