Synopsis

The Anime Lad

Kodaka transfers schools and gains a delinquent reputation because of his blond hair. He discovers solitary classmate Yozora speaking with an imaginary friend. They respond by founding the Neighbors Club for students lacking social skills. The initial membership criteria are met with considerable administrative efficiency.

Misjudged transfer student Kodaka and abrasive loner Yozora start a club for people who cannot make friends. New members arrive carrying their own defenses. Games and group activities become tests run by subjects openly sabotaging the experiment. Nobody volunteers for the painfully necessary control group.

The Neighbors Club is such a beautifully flawed plan! Put the school's loneliest students in one room, tell them to practice friendship, and watch every insecurity turn competitive. Kodaka tries to keep the peace while Yozora treats social growth like a contact sport, so even a simple game becomes personal immediately.

The setup announces a harem before the furniture is arranged, and some fan service is plain dead weight. Its better comedy comes from people who want connection while protecting the habits that prevent it. The club activities expose that contradiction more effectively than any sincere speech about loneliness could.
