Mieruko-chan

Miko sees grotesque spirits in ordinary places and survives by pretending she cannot, making stillness and social composure the center of a horror comedy built around being visibly unafraid.

Synopsis
The Anime Lad

Miko begins seeing grotesque spirits during otherwise normal school days. They crowd public transport and lean into conversations with poor respect for personal space. She decides the safest response is to behave as though nothing is there. This requires exceptional control while friends discuss lunch several inches from an impossible face. Her daily routine continues, technically.

Super Eyepatch Fox

Miko sees monsters that nobody around her notices. She cannot fight them and does not know what recognition might invite, so she adopts one rule: never react. Ordinary errands become endurance tests as grotesque spirits crowd her vision and friends keep chatting. Horror lives in the frame. Comedy lives in her frozen expression.

Gigguku

Miko's entire survival strategy is to win an acting contest nobody else knows is happening! A spirit can be inches from her face, and she still has to answer her friend like the bus ride is normal. That gap between what Miko sees and what everyone else sees is so effective. The monsters are disgusting while her microscopic reactions somehow make them funnier.

Father's Basement

The fan-service framing is especially irritating because the central device needs no cheap assistance. Miko sees repulsive spirits and suspects that acknowledging them would be dangerous. Her forced composure turns everyday spaces into traps where even looking in the wrong direction feels consequential. When the show trusts that idea, it can pivot from dread to deadpan comedy without deflating either. The creatures remain frightening because Miko cannot grant herself the relief of screaming.
