Makoto Naegi enters Hope's Peak Academy as its unusually average new student, then wakes inside a sealed version of the school. Fourteen gifted classmates are trapped with him, and a talking bear announces a graduation rule based on murder and deception. Suspicion leads to investigation, followed by public argument. School spirit is understandably low.

A group of 15 elite high school students are gathered at a very special, high class high school. To graduate from this high school essentially means you'll succeed in life, but graduating is very difficult.

What defines it

Makoto's ordinary luck places him among prodigies whose abilities shape both cooperation and suspicion. Monokuma turns each new motive into pressure, then forces survivors to reconstruct the crime publicly while a wrong verdict threatens everyone.
