Synopsis
Tomoya drifts through his final school year with little affection for home or his own future. On the way to class he meets Nagisa, who is repeating the year after an illness left her friends ahead of her. They begin spending time together, apparently because two lonely schedules have found the same opening.
Tomoya is estranged from his father and sleepwalking through school. Nagisa has returned after illness to find her friends gone and her confidence shaken. A chance meeting connects his bitterness to her isolation. Their time together begins changing the direction of a senior year both had been enduring alone.
Clannad starts with Tomoya cut off from home and Nagisa returning to school without the friends she knew. Then one shared walk changes the temperature! Their connection is wonderfully modest, which lets a glance or an awkward pause carry real weight. A school corridor can feel like an emotional event when two lonely people finally notice each other.
The early humor includes dated visual-novel habits and character designs that can make every face look permanently surprised. Beneath that surface, the setup is careful about alienation. Tomoya and Nagisa do not fix each other through instant romance. They create small obligations that pull them back into the school community, and that patient structure earns attention.
