The show that defined a generation of shonen. Its ninja world and emotional flashbacks turned it into a global phenomenon.

Synopsis
The Anime Lad

An orphan with a demon sealed inside him is feared by his whole village, so naturally his plan is to become its leader through sheer volume. Ninja school, a rival with darker baggage, and adults who all seem to be carrying something. It's long, the filler era is its own geography, and the fandom maintains skip guides like public infrastructure. Underneath all of it is a story about lonely children breaking generational cycles, and when a payoff arrives, it hits hard enough to excuse a lot.

Super Eyepatch Fox

An orphan carries the demon that attacked his village. The village hates him for it. He decides they'll love him instead, loudly. Ninja academy, a rival worth the word, wars inherited from parents. Legendary filler, use a guide. The emotional payoffs built a generation of fans.

Gigguku

This show is the reason half the people my age watch anime at all, zero regrets. Yes it's long, yes you should use a skip guide, and none of that matters when the flashbacks start, because not one of them missed. It's a story about outcasts refusing to stay outcasts, the fights carry real feelings, and the friendship-versus-revenge spine holds up all the way through. Put on the right soundtrack cue and I'm sixteen again instantly.

Father's Basement

It's oversized, the filler percentage is genuinely disrespectful, and the later power scaling escapes containment. All of it true. And I will still defend this show in public, because the emotional core is real, a lonely kid clawing his way from nuisance to necessary, and it works. Half the villains are tragedies with better writing than most protagonists get. Skip the filler and the payoffs hit like they did when we were kids.
