Sasaki is an overworked salaryman sustained by cigarettes and the cheerful service at his usual supermarket. One late evening, the clerk he hopes to see is gone. A pierced young woman offers him somewhere to smoke behind the store instead. His workday improves by an amount too small for management to record.

Corporate work drains Sasaki. A familiar supermarket usually restores him, briefly. One late arrival leaves him without the clerk he expected or anywhere to smoke. Then a pierced stranger calls from behind the building. Sit down. Light up. Let an improvised break interrupt the grind.

Sasaki is so flattened by office life that a friendly supermarket smile has become emotional infrastructure. Then he arrives late, misses that small comfort, and gets invited behind the store by a pierced stranger. I LOVE how little the setup needs. Tired adults and one hidden corner make an ordinary break feel enormous!
Father's Basement
Centering an adult comedy around cigarettes is an obvious limitation, and Sasaki's dependence on a service worker's smile starts bleakly. Still, the supermarket setting earns attention. He is exhausted, a stranger controls the invitation, and the refuge is pointedly ordinary. The appeal begins with two adults finding a pause after work.
