High-school student Usa moves into the Kawai boarding house expecting an independent bachelor life. He receives a roommate with alarming interests and neighbors who make privacy unlikely. Ritsu, the girl who catches his attention immediately, also lives there. The housing arrangement has exceeded its advertised social capacity.

Usa chooses a boarding house to begin living independently. A difficult roommate and eccentric residents overturn that plan at once. Ritsu, the girl he likes on sight, lives in the same building. Every attempt to manage his new life must now account for a household that notices everything.

Usa moves out expecting freedom and lands in the most socially crowded version of independence possible. Then he discovers Ritsu, the girl who instantly captures his attention, lives there too. That is a PERFECT comedy trap. His romantic hopes and the boarding house's eccentric residents are now stuck under one roof!
Father's Basement
The roommate's interests make part of the comedy harder to tolerate, and love at first sight is a thin romantic foundation. The boarding-house setup still supplies useful friction. Usa cannot pursue independence or impress Ritsu without the eccentric residents turning private intentions into communal business.
