When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace

Studio TRIGGER's school comedy gives a literature club genuine superpowers, then keeps ordinary club life intact, making adolescent performance and relationships more urgent than saving the world.

Synopsis
The Anime Lad

The members of a high school literature club suddenly develop supernatural abilities. No invading army follows. No secret mission arrives. The club continues meeting while one member treats the powers as validation of every dramatic fantasy he has rehearsed. The others still have ordinary school days to manage. Global security remains strangely calm.

Super Eyepatch Fox

Five literature club members awaken extraordinary powers without receiving an extraordinary purpose. Their school days remain stubbornly normal, leaving them to test abilities in the clubroom and decide what any of this is for. Fantasy posing cannot solve the ordinary confusion waiting around the same table.

Gigguku

Giving a committed fantasy nerd an actual supernatural power should be the happiest event in human history, yet his ability is almost comically unhelpful! The club's other members get far more impressive gifts, and watching him narrate their situation like the epic refuses to arrive is endlessly funny. Then the character friction sneaks in and suddenly the silly room feels painfully real.

Father's Basement

The title promises battles the early premise deliberately withholds, and the romantic setup can make the clubroom feel crowded. Its better idea is asking what happens when spectacular powers fail to change daily life. Grand fantasy language meets classmates who know each other too well to be impressed, leaving ordinary tension stubbornly intact.

The five members of the literature club awakened with extraordinary powers half a year ago. Although the members expected to be thrown into a world of super-powered battles at their school, their normal daily routine continued.

What defines it

A chuunibyou romantic comedy. Low-key and charming.
