In the eleventh year of the Meiji era, a cheerful wanderer with a past as a formidable assassin reaches Tokyo and becomes involved with people carrying secrets of their own.

Synopsis
The Anime Lad

In the eleventh year of the Meiji era, Himura Kenshin arrives in Tokyo as a cheerful wanderer. He was once an assassin of exceptional skill during the Restoration, then walked away. His travels bring him into the lives of a kendo master, a former thief, a brawler, and a doctor.

Super Eyepatch Fox

The Meiji Restoration has ended, but its violence remains close. Kenshin, once a highly skilled assassin, now wanders with a markedly sunny disposition. In Tokyo he befriends a kendo master and several others carrying difficult pasts. Enemies connected to Kenshin’s history begin surfacing, making his present relationships share space with the life he tried to leave.

Gigguku

Kenshin enters Meiji-era Tokyo smiling like an easygoing traveler, while the premise tells you he once worked as an assassin of terrifying skill. That contrast is immediate and strong. The people he befriends have secrets too, so the group never feels built from one spotless hero gathering sidekicks.

Father's Basement

The tonal distance between sunny wandering and an assassin’s past can feel broad, especially when comedy sits close to historical violence. Kenshin remains a useful center because the contradiction is present from the opening. He has left his old role but not the enemies attached to it.
