Chise Hatori has grown up with neglect, abuse, and no reliable sense of family. At her lowest point, a man with a beast-like head and strange powers obtains her through a slave auction. He offers a future unlike the life she knows. The terms are not clear enough to make the arrangement comforting.

That discomfort is the first honest question the series raises. Chise wants something resembling love or family, while the person changing her circumstances controls far more than she does. Caution belongs inside the premise.

Chise Hatori has lived a life full of neglect and abuse, devoid of anything resembling love. Far from the warmth of family, she has had her share of troubles and pitfalls.

What defines it

Chise begins with so little sense of her own worth that being chosen feels like rescue despite the troubling terms. Elias teaches her about hidden creatures and her rare nature, while their household slowly tests whether possession can become mutual care.
