Season 2 · Who runs the Empire
The fighting stops being about the gate and starts being about the throne. Succession, hostages, and a capital full of people making worse and worse choices. The recon unit keeps taking jobs nobody above them wants to sign. Episode numbering runs straight on from the first cour, 13 through 24.

Studio M2 animates and the original anime's writer is back. It is built from the author's separate Season 2 novels, so the 24 episodes above buy you the world, the politics, and the tone rather than a cliffhanger that resumes.
