Magical DoReMi looked like another cheerful kids’ show, then won generations over through patient character writing and a remarkably long franchise life. Crest of the Stars became the science fiction fan’s pick, while Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne gave magical-girl viewers a moodier alternative.
