Synopsis

The Anime Lad

Kotoko Iwanaga serves as a mediator for yokai, who bring her problems that cannot be settled through ordinary channels. Kurou Sakuragawa is a university student recently separated from his girlfriend. Kotoko decides he may be useful professionally and desirable personally. She communicates the second conclusion with efficiency. Supernatural diplomacy proceeds beside courtship conducted without camouflage.

Yokai ask Kotoko to settle disputes between their world and ours. She approaches their problems with confidence and recruits the reserved Kurou as a potential partner. Her romantic interest is impossible to misfile. Supernatural consultation and blunt courtship share the same conversation, whether Kurou is prepared or not.

Kotoko is tiny and brilliant, with absolutely no interest in flirting at a socially responsible volume! She acts as a wisdom broker for yokai, handling problems that ordinary human channels cannot touch. Then she pulls the very reserved Kurou into her professional orbit while making her personal interest hilariously clear. Supernatural consultation has rarely come with this much romantic confidence.

If talkative supernatural mysteries sound exhausting, the show may test your patience. Its saving force is Kotoko. She treats yokai disputes as practical problems between incompatible worlds and refuses to wait for Kurou to notice her interest. Her blunt pursuit cuts through the consultation with welcome comic aggression. This is more folklore argument than conventional detective work.

At the young age of 11, Kotoko Iwanaga was abducted by youkai for two weeks and asked to become their "God of Wisdom," a mediator between the spirit and human worlds, to which the girl quickly agreed but at the cost of her right eye and left leg. Now, six years later, whenever youkai wish for their problems to be solved, they make their way to Kotoko for consultation.
