Synopsis

The Anime Lad

Ayumu joins Urushi's unofficial shogi club because he fell for her immediately. He also decides he cannot confess until he beats her, despite being a beginner. Urushi is far better at the game. Progress has therefore been assigned an avoidable strategic obstacle.

Ayumu loves Urushi, the skilled leader of a tiny shogi club. His rule is simple: beat her before confessing. Unfortunately, she controls the board while he remains a beginner. Each club meeting becomes another delay built from one very difficult promise.

The whole romance rests on a vow that could vanish if Ayumu behaved sensibly. Fortunately, sensible behavior would remove the premise. Urushi's shogi skill makes his chosen condition genuinely difficult, so every club meeting renews the same absurd stalemate without needing a new excuse.
