Each guardian teaches him a different way to survive and understand the world. Their domestic arrangement is unusual. Their concern for his future is not.

Will absorbs all of it while trying to understand the silent city beyond their home. The care in those lessons makes every small step feel enormous.
Father's Basement
The fantasy vocabulary is familiar, and the series sometimes states emotions that the family scenes already communicate. Those scenes remain its strongest case. Will's guardians disagree about methods and belief, yet their shared investment in him feels specific. Beginning with education instead of conquest gives the setting moral texture before the wider world asks anything of its young protagonist.
