D.Gray-man

D.Gray-man combines Gothic exorcist imagery with a late nineteenth-century setting, centering Allen Walker's cursed sight and weaponized arm in battles against grief-made Akuma.

Synopsis
The Anime Lad

In a fantastical nineteenth century, Allen Walker joins the Black Order, an organization of Exorcists fighting weapons called Akuma. His left arm carries Innocence, the power used against them, while his cursed eye perceives what others cannot. The uniform is severe, the headquarters is stranger, and his first days offer limited orientation.

Super Eyepatch Fox

Young exorcist Allen Walker arrives at the Black Order carrying two unusual tools. A left arm empowered by Innocence, and a cursed eye that can recognize Akuma. These weapons are built from human grief by the Millennium Earl. Allen enters a Gothic war where identifying the monster can be as painful as fighting it.

Gigguku

D.Gray-man's Akuma are such a cruel idea. The Millennium Earl takes grief and turns it into machinery, while Allen's cursed eye forces him to see the human pain inside. His massive left arm carries anti-Akuma force into the Gothic action. He looks built for battle, but his compassion is the part that makes him dangerous.

Father's Basement

The opening stretch can feel episodic, with haunted towns and obvious villains queued for exorcism. Its central imagery has more bite. Akuma are mechanical weapons born from bereavement, and Allen can see what that process traps inside them. Joining the Black Order gives him allies and orders, but it does not make his cursed perception easier to carry.

Towards the end of the 19th century, Allen Walker officially joins the organization of Exorcists that destroy the beings known as Akuma, mechanic weapons made by the Millennium Earl with the suffering souls of the dead. Allen has both a cursed eye and an anti-Akuma weapon as an arm, bearing the power of "Innocence", a gift given to him as an apostle of God.

What defines it
