Sending an apprentice to observe and possibly eliminate a legendary vampire is institutional logic designed to create a teenage action series. The mismatch at least gives Yukina useful tension. She has a formidable spear and incomplete certainty. Kojou complicates the mystery enough to keep their encounter from becoming routine supernatural paperwork.
