Blue Spring Ride

A 2014 Production I.G shoujo drama about Futaba meeting her middle-school crush again after both have changed how they present themselves.

Synopsis
The Anime Lad

Futaba Yoshioka enters high school determined to seem less feminine after girls ostracized her in middle school. The performance helps her avoid jealousy. Then she meets the boy she once liked, now using the name Kou Mabuchi. He remembers their old feelings but says things cannot be the same. Nostalgia has failed its compatibility check.

Super Eyepatch Fox

Futaba acts deliberately unladylike so her new friends will not reject her. Then her middle-school crush reappears as Kou Mabuchi, familiar but changed. He admits their old feelings matched and closes the door on simply resuming them. Their unfinished connection meets the personas built during three years apart.

Gigguku

Futaba has redesigned her whole school personality so girls will stop treating her like competition. Then the one boy she could never confess to walks back in under a new name. He remembers. He felt it too. He also says the past cannot simply restart. That is an entire wall of teenage emotion arriving in one reunion!

Father's Basement

Futaba’s attempt to secure friendship by acting unlike herself is frustrating because the logic is recognizably teenage. Her reunion with Kou makes the same point from another direction. He is the boy she remembers and also someone who insists that time changed the situation. The romance begins with both of them performing versions of themselves they may not trust.

Yoshioka Futaba has a few reasons why she wants to "reset" her image & life as a new high school student. Because she's cute, she was ostracized by her female friends in junior high, and because of a misunderstanding, she couldn't get her feeling across to the one boy she has ever liked, Tanaka-kun.

What defines it

Futaba acts deliberately unpolished to secure friendship, even when the role distances her from herself. Kou's return exposes the feelings she never resolved, while his changed behavior suggests that the years between them carry pain she cannot see.
