Takeo has no confidence near romance and cannot imagine why the old pattern would change. His size drives the gag. His gentleness gives it staying power.

Takeo looks built to stop a truck, yet seeing Yamato again reduces him to pure nervous static! I adore how the show lets him be loud and masculine without rationing his tenderness. He loves his best friend and helps people without calculating rewards. Still, he assumes romance will follow the old pattern. That sincerity turns every oversized reaction into something warm instead of merely goofy.
Father's Basement
The character design tells the central joke before anyone speaks: Takeo looks like he wandered in from a different genre than delicate Yamato and handsome Sunakawa. That could age badly. Instead, the series treats Takeo's appearance as other people's limitation, then gives him a rich friendship and zero cynical armor. The misunderstandings stretch credibility, but his belief that affection belongs elsewhere has enough history to make the blindness hurt.
