Synopsis
Coco wants to become a witch in a world that treats magical ability as something determined at birth. She has nearly surrendered that dream when traveling magician Qifrey arrives. His presence gives her reason to reconsider what seemed settled. Her resignation has therefore been filed prematurely.
Coco has always wanted to be a witch. Everyone around her treats the answer as settled because magicians are supposedly born with their gift. Then traveling magician Qifrey enters her ordinary life, and the dream no longer feels safely distant. The fantasy begins at the edge of that renewed possibility.
Coco loves magic with the ache of someone told she will always stand outside it. Then Qifrey arrives, and the dream she was preparing to abandon suddenly has room to breathe again. That shift from resignation to possibility is HUGE. The whole fantasy seems to open with her eyes!
A child dreaming of magic is familiar fantasy ground, and the setting initially gives Coco the standard closed door: witches are born. Qifrey's arrival creates the useful complication without erasing how thoroughly she accepted that limit. The premise gains tension from hope returning where the world had already ruled it out.
