Pazu is an engineer's apprentice in a mining town. One evening, Sheeta descends from the sky wearing a glowing pendant, which is a fairly efficient way to disrupt his routine. Both become targets of airborne pirates and government agents seeking the legendary floating castle Laputa. Their escape crosses industrial ground before reaching cloud banks and machinery that appears to require actual maintenance.
