Eva changed the conversation

Neon Genesis Evangelion started as the exciting new Gainax robot show, then became the anime everyone analyzed, argued over, and rewatched. Gokinjo Monogatari offered a warmer fashion-school alternative, but Eva's imagery and famously debated finale swallowed the season's long-term reputation.
