Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting!

A bullied teenager discovers unexpected punching power at a boxing gym, then asks for the training needed to make that strength deliberate.

Synopsis
The Anime Lad

Ippo Makunouchi spends his school days enduring bullies and his free time helping his hardworking mother. Boxer Mamoru Takamura rescues him from another beating and brings him to Kamogawa Boxing Gym. A first attempt at punching wakes something in Ippo. Training, however, requires passing a test rather than purchasing gloves.

Super Eyepatch Fox

Quiet Ippo wants to become stronger but has never acted on it. After Takamura brings him to a boxing gym, hitting a bag turns that wish into a specific possibility. Ippo asks to train. Takamura answers with a difficult task and one week to complete it. Desire now needs discipline.

Gigguku

Ippo enters Kamogawa Boxing Gym with no confidence and leaves wanting to learn what his own hands can do! That first spark matters because the show does not hand him a heroic identity. Takamura gives him a test, a deadline, and a reason to work. Boxing becomes the first goal Ippo has chosen for himself.

Father's Basement

The bullies are written with all the nuance of punching bags, and Takamura's first lesson is hardly gentle. The setup improves once Ippo asks to train. He is not declared a finished boxer after one emotional punch. He receives a difficult task with a time limit, making his first challenge about commitment before competition.
