The series changes gears between military tension and broad school comedy with very little warning. That instability becomes useful whenever Sousuke applies battlefield logic to harmless teenage life. Kaname supplies the necessary resistance, refusing to become a passive assignment. Their collision gives the premise more character than a standard undercover protection story.
